Are you a nonfiction book lover? If so, then you’ve definitely experienced the following situation before:
You’re about to finish reading the first chapter of a new nonfiction book you just bought. And, to your surprise, you’re absolutely loving it!
You’re captivated. You’re interested. You’re motivated to read more. In fact, you’re already telling everyone you know that this may be the best book you ever read and that they should read it too.
But then something changes…
The author spends the next 15 chapters using different stories to explain the same idea from Chapter 1. What you thought was an amazing book is now getting repetitive and stale. You’re starting to feel bored. You’re no longer engaged. You’re ready to just finish the book and move on.
It sucks. And the worst part is that this happens to you over and over again with most nonfiction books you read.
It’s annoying, right? You bet! But let me tell you a secret about nonfiction books: 90% of the information in nonfiction books is fluff.
Why? Because every nonfiction book typically contains only 2–3 important ideas. But books are a business. As a result, book authors will expand those 2–3 ideas into 200+ page books in order to justify their $20 — $30 cost.
This is why you need to learn how to cut through all that fluff in order to find the 10% of the book that is actually worth reading. Otherwise, you could easily waste an entire month reading the same ideas over and over again.
